For Veterans

Washington Memorial Park offers a complete range of funeral and burial benefits for Veterans and their families, including:

  • Two cemetery gardens designed specifically for Veterans
  • Options for both in-ground burial and above-ground urn placements
  • A grave for the Veteran gratis in a designated area our Veterans’ garden and other special cemetery savings

One of the advantages of Washington Memorial Park’s Veteran’s Program is that the family members of the Veteran can also make arrangements for placement in the same area. Placement in a National cemetery is limited to Veterans, their spouses, and dependent children.

POW/MIA Living Memorial Plaza

Washington Memorial Park is home to the POW/MIA Living Memorial Plaza, the first and largest of its kind in the United States.

The plaza features a 14 ton granite pyramid standing 10 feet high, and the Freedom Shrine consists of 28 original historic American documents photographically reproduced on aluminum. Its purpose is to remind all Americans that the freedoms we enjoy today are, in essence, a gift from the past; that they are the product of idealism, determination, and sacrifice by vast numbers of courageous men and women who preceded us.

Each year in September, Washington State hosts a POW/MIA Recognition Day, and the day ends with a brief ceremony at Washington Memorial’s Living Memorial Plaza.

Memorial Day

The Veterans Advisory Board of Washington Memorial Park plans our annual Memorial Day ceremony that pays tribute to all those who have served our country. With the backdrop of individual flags that adorn the graves of the thousands of veterans buried at Washington Memorial, those who attend the ceremony enjoy the words of inspiration, bagpipe music, 21-gun salute, and Taps, as they honor those who have died.
