Introduction
Welcome to Washington Memorial Cemetery located on the grounds of Washington Memorial Park. We are located on over 60 beautifully landscaped acres in the City of SeaTac, a community about 10 miles south of downtown Seattle. The cemetery sits atop a hill with commanding views of the Cascade Mountain Range and Mount Rainier to the east, and the Olympic Mountain Range to the west.
Brief History
Washington Memorial Park was founded in 1930, with the intent of providing a "park-like setting together with monuments of inspiration". The location and natural landscape has allowed the cemetery to be not only a place of interment, but also a setting of peace and beauty for the enjoyment of the living. Our founders described Washington Memorial Park as a "living memorial, a calm sanctuary, [and] a place of inspiration."
Park Features
Washington Memorial's park-like setting includes rolling well-kept lawns, landscaped flowering gardens, and features attesting to the value of life. One of the features is a POW/MIA Living Memorial Plaza; the largest of it's kind in the United States. This monument features a 14 ton granite pyramid standing 10 feet high and a Freedom Shrine that consists of 28 original historic American documents photographically reproduced on aluminum. Its purpose is to remind all Americans that the freedoms we enjoy today are, in essence, a gift from the past, the product of idealism, determination, and sacrifice of vast numbers of courageous men and women who preceded us. In addition, every year on Memorial Day, Washington Memorial Park hosts and sponsors an impressive celebration in honor of our country's war veterans. Each year this event grows in content and attendance and is very well received by the local communities.
One Convenient Location
Washington Memorial Park was the first institution in the greater Seattle area to offer families every option available in one setting. The cemetery offers a full range of above-ground and below-ground interment options, including Wilbert Burial and Cremation Vaults for families choosing either casket or urn placement. Military veterans and their families have the option of placement in designated veteran's gardens. The park also includes Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, a full service facility offering families a complete range of burial and cremation services; and Washington Park Florist, a full-service retail flower shop that specializes in distinctive floral art.
Washington Memorial Park is an endowed care cemetery with numerous grave, mausoleum and niche sites that are available for many years to come.
